Shower Room Project In Old Catton

This was another exciting conversion project which we had the pleasure of conducting. Formally part of the single garage which was adjacent to the main bedroom, we were tasked with converting this into a comfortable and contemporary en-suite in keeping with the existing property. We helped our clients through the daunting process and plethora of choices we have available, where we ultimately decided upon a fully tiled finish in the natural stone effect tile, called Ditto Dark Grey from British Ceramic Tile.

practicality & functionality

Given that the room was formally a garage at the front of the bungalow and the drains were somewhat remote at the rear, we had to design a layout that provided all the facilities the client required whilst routing pipe work through an adjacent study/bedroom to a rear courtyard. Given these limitations of position and our clients preferences for a large wall hung basin unit and spacious shower, we settled on the layout above. We divided up the garage mid-way with a fire-break wall and insulated the roof and floor and a cement-screed was laid to bring the floor up to the adjacent bedroom level. A doorway to the bedroom and fully tiling the room and decorating completed the finish. A digital shower pump was fitted in the main loft space for access and the appropriate electrical circuits, LED lighting and extraction were all installed in conjunction with the local planning authorities’ oversight.

The shower is a Matki who are an extremely well-respected manufacturer known for quality and design. This model forms part of their Radiance collection. The footprint of the shower is rather unusual, it bows out to offer a large showering space within, whilst the wall dimensions are kept small. Whilst not relevant in this particular installation, it's a handy shape when planning behind door reveals. The luxurious wall hung basin unit was manufactured by Vanity Hall, and features a large ceramic top with wide, flat wings either side of the bowl. These provide an ideal space for standing your bathroom essentials when using the basin. Automatic lighting was installed under the unit so that the couple don’t have to turn the main lights on when using the room overnight. Another delighted customer making a useful and worthwhile investment in their home with Atlantic.
